EXTOL TOASTMASTERS CLUB Meeting No. 421 on 07 Oct 2015 at 7.15pm








Profound thoughts, perceptions and beliefs that “hope is a tree of life” was “appreciated”, observed and shared at this wonderful meeting where we gave a standing ovation to Mok Pei San, our second Competent Communicator achiever for this term. 






Serena Kong, ACB from Money-Mastery (KL) Toastmasters Club was honorably “appreciated” for her presence as our General Evaluator for this meeting. Thank you for being with us, Serena.

President Ken Koh, ACB


President Ken Koh, ACB in his opening address, envisaged that “hope is a tree of life” when we were grateful and “appreciated” everything and everybody in our lives. Well said, Ken!



TME, Jeannie ACS, ALB vibrantly energised the whole meeting with appreciation and hope like a tree of life. You are awesome, Jeannie!

 
Pun Yew Kee, CC, CL


Invocation presenter, Pun Yew Kee, CC, CL reminded all to be constantly pleasant, “appreciative” and humble in all our dealings with others regardless of rank, race and religion. Thank you, Yew Kee!

Table Topics Master, Tham Yen Lai


Table Topics Master, Tham Yen Lai, offered topics with only a single word which magnetized five plucky volunteers. You are amazing, Yen Lai!

 
Victor Guijo


Victor Guijo promptly started the ball rolling with the topic, “Wealthy” by explaining that wealth was not merely tangible but also intangible like happiness, kindness, helpfulness and “appreciation”. We concur with you, Victor!

Jinson Siew, CC



Jinson Siew, CC immediately outlined all the essentials that we must perform to achieve “DTM” status in our Toastmasters journey, in his topic, “Aim”.  We shall heed your words, Jinson!

Kwa Ngan Eng, DTM


Kwa Ngan Eng, DTM reminded all to eat, sleep, work and exercise appropriately in order to “appreciate” health, in her topic, “Healthy”.  We shall emulate all that, Ngan Eng!


Alan Fung


Alan Fung instantly reiterated that although being fast, fuming and furious like an arrow might hit the target but preparation, planning and proper decision-making will ensure eventual continuous success, in his topic, “Target”.

 
Ken Koh, ACB


Finally, Ken Koh, ACB recounted how “Success” was the sweetest victory when we had pushed ourselves to the limit to achieve our goals.

Thank you, all five valiant volunteers! Your speeches truly demonstrated that “hope is a tree of life” and we “appreciated” that from the deepest recesses of our hearts.

Humour Master, SK Ratnam, DTM


Humour Master, SK Ratnam, DTM gave various quotations from people of all walks of life as to “Why the chicken cross the road?”  You never ceased to humour us, SK!

Shirley Bak, DTM


Table Topics Evaluator, Shirley Bak, DTM provided very encouraging, constructive and beneficial feedback for all the five courageous speakers. Thank you, Shirley!


Joanne Kuek


First speaker, Joanne Kuek advocated how we could “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” in every aspect of our lives in her informative CC#3 speech, titled” Solid waste management” and how we could implement them in our lives.


 
Pun Yew Kee, CC, CL


Her evaluator, Pun Yew Kee, CC, CL was satisfied with her well-researched, organised and informative speech. Thank you, Yew Kee!



Nicholas Khoo


Second speaker, Nicholas Khoo acknowledged the importance of both the “Arts and Science Streams” in his CC#4 speech, for he was in the science stream while in secondary school but in the Arts stream in university which helped him to be an all-rounder and had propelled him towards his future career in book-writing on political issues. 

 
Shirley Bak, DTM


His evaluator, Shirley Bak, DTM praised him for his “eye-opening” speech which broke all taboos concerning a fixed idea, however she hoped he had used at least one rhetorical device in his speech. Thank you, Shirley!


Dr Ravichandran


Third speaker, Dr Ravichandran encouraged all to chant, recite and reverberate “I choose, I can, I will, I am” for whatever we wished for until its realization, in his CC#7 speech  titled, “Self talk and why it matters”.


Alan Fung


His evaluator, Alan Fung observed that his speech was well-researched not in large quantity of data, figures and statistics but in the depth of reasonings, reckonings and intense thoughts. Thank you, Alan!

 
Mok Pei San, CC


Fourth and final speaker, Mok Pei San, in her CC#10, entitled, “Everyone needs a good mentor”, revealed the magnitude of mentoring she received since childhood which helped her all the way until she achieved her ambition as a successful career lady. 


 
Ken Koh, ACB

Her evaluator, Ken Koh, ACB was inspired by her brilliant speech and acquiesced the significance of having a good mentor. Thank you, Ken!

Ah Counter, Kwa Ngan Eng, DTM presented a concise report on “word crutches” used by the speakers during the meeting. Thank you, Ngan Eng!

 
Grammarian, SK Ratnam, DTM



Grammarian, SK Ratnam, DTM presented a succinct and accurate report on positive, creative and wrongful usage of words and sentences during the meeting. Great job, SK!


 
Timer, Victor Ong, DTM


Timer, Victor Ong, DTM presented a thorough timing report of the meeting. Kudos, Victor!


 
Listening Evaluator, Victor Guijo

Listening Evaluator, Victor Guijo gave ten seemingly easy questions extracted from the speeches, however nobody got at least eight correct answers, therefore nobody was awarded the Best Listener.  Well done, Victor! 


 
General Evaluator, Serena Kong, ACB

General Evaluator, Serena Kong, ACB was very happy with all and sundry from the time she stepped into the meeting venue until the end of the meeting. Thank you, Serena! 


 
President Ken Koh, ACB

President Ken Koh, ACB made four announcements at the end of the meeting:

1. He encouraged all our club members to go and support our double Champion, Alan Fung at the Division C Humourous & Evaluation Speech Contests on 11th October 2015 at 12noon to be held in IICS Toastmaster Club, Subang Jaya.





2. He announced that our current Vice President Education, SH Sheffa Mashuri  is facing health problems, therefore Nicholas Khoo is nominated as Vice President Education for our club which received unanimous support.

3. He announced that he is organizing a membership campaign for meetings in the months of November and December 2015, encouraging all members to bring a guest each to the meeting and when the guest becomes a member, the member who brought the guest will receive a gift.




4. He announced that our club will be conducting a “Youth Leadership Program” from 4th – 5th December, 2015 from 9.00am to 5.00pm. He encouraged all members to help recruit youths from the ages of 12-17+ to register for the programme and encourage the members to help out during the three days programme.
