Extol TMC Humourous Speech and Evaluation Contests on 6 August 2014



That was a most wonderful Humourous Speech and Evaluation Contests session we had yesterday. Most of us were there before 6pm. 

All present very quickly arranged and prepared the venue ready for the contest. This fitted the slogan for our term 2014-2015, “Efficient, Effective, Excellent!

At 6.30pm , Humourous Speech Contest Chair Aric Ng briefed all the speech contestants while Evaluation Contest Chair, Kwa Ngan Eng, DTM briefed all the evaluation contestants, simultaneously Chief Judge, Lincoln Leong, ACB, ALB briefed all the role players.

After Assistant Sergeant-At-Arms, Pun Yew Kee called the meeting to order, President Jeannie Carrera, CC gave her presidential address, Humourous Speech Contest Chair Aric Ng started the ball rolling by calling upon the contestants to present their speeches.

 First contestant, Henry Yeoh recounted how he assumed twice wrongly with two different ladies but eventually was able to get married to the right lady and now has three lovely children.

Second contestant, Rebecca Narcis spoke about how she overcame bad luck while selling her property and her belief in God.

Third contestant, SK Ratnam reminisced how he proposed and wedded his wife and is still very happy and satisfied with her.

Fourth contestant, Jeannie Carrera shared stories about the games that she played with her friends during her childhood.

Fifth and last contestant, Koh Teck Ken told about all the awkward moments that he had encountered and how embarrassed he was when caught in those situations.

All the speech contestants presented their speeches within the allocated time frame and none were disqualified.

After the break of 10 minutes, Evaluation Contest Chair, Kwa Ngan Eng, DTM began the session by calling upon all contestants to present their evaluation on a speech by a test speaker.

All the evaluation contestants, SK Ratnam, Mohammad Yousuf, Jeannie Carrera, Henry Yeoh and Koh Teck Ken presented their evaluation within the allocated time frame and none were disqualified.

After the contests ended, Chief Judge, Lincoln Leong, ACB, ALB, his panel of judges, Ballot Counter and Timer went off to compile the contest results.

Organising Chair, Tan Joke Boey, Humourous Speech Contest Chair Aric Ng and Evaluation Contest Chair, Kwa Ngan Eng, DTM presented certificates and tokens to all contestants and role players.

At last, the moment that all are waiting for arrived when Chief Judge, Lincoln Leong, ACB, ALB returned with the winners list.

Congratulations, all the winners! The Champion for both the contests, SK Ratnam will represent Extol Toastmasters Club at the Area C5 Humourous Speech and Evaluation Contest while the 1st Runner-Up of both contests will be on standby.

Extol Toastmasters Club Officers Installation Dinner on 01 Aug 2014 at 7.00pm



At last, the day has arrived! This is the most anticipated event of our new term. The club officers’ installation dinner which was held at Broadbean Café, Aman Suria, Damanasara.

A big round of applause to all involved in the organizing of this event, especially to Organizing Chair, Rebecca Narcis, CC. Well done, Rebecca.

Our heartfelt thanks to Division C Governor, Tan Hok Eng, ACB, ALS for gracing this event together with Immediate Past Area C5 Governor, Lincoln Leong, ACB, ALB and Current Area C5 Governor Steven Khaw, CC, CL. Our deepest gratitude to all three governors!

The highest compliment goes to Mohammad Yousuf, CC, the TME who did a fantastic job of managing the whole proceedings of the dinner. Kudos, Yousuf, best TME!

Division C Governor, Tan Hok Eng, ACB, ALS gave a very encouraging speech to uplift all members to RISE and SHINE and be a part of a brighter and stronger Division C in District 51. Thank you, Hok Eng, we shall do our best!

Kwa Ngan Eng, DTM as usual was in her element to take us back in time to the founding of our dear club by Founder, Patricia Tan, DTM since 1998 until today by showing a very well done and memorable slide show. Everybody was amazed that Ngan Eng put in a lot of effort to insert updated photos of all the Presidents of our club and all distinguished members of our club. Thank you for your awesome effort, Ngan Eng!!

We had a most delicious dinner while enjoying the slide show. Obaidullah and Kooshan distributed the voting slips for Best Dressed Man and Best Dressed Lady to everybody and collected them for tabulation. Good job, Obaidullah and Kooshan!







After everybody was filled with good food and relaxed, red wine and whisky flowed throughout and after dinner!

Then we had the Installation Ceremony when Immediate Past Area C5 Governor, Lincoln Leong, ACB, ALB was invited to the stage. He thanked all the executive council members for the previous term for helping our club to achieve Select Distinguished Club status and discharged them from their duties as office bearers and reminded them to continue to support the club and the new office bearers. Thank you, Lincoln, we shall listen to your advice!

Past President Pun Yew Kee presented a token of appreciation each to all his fellow office bearers for the term 2013-2014 for their excellent performance. Next, Current Area C5 Governor Steven Khaw, CC, CL installed the office bearers for the term 2014-2015 in a solemn ceremony and presented them with their badges. After the installation, newly installed President, Jeannie Carrera, CC gave a rousing speech to motivate all club members to do their part in further pushing our club to reach newer and greater heights. Thank you, Jeannie and all members!

Next, our most groovy, Father of golden oldies, SK Ratnam, DTM conducted the singing session. While the equipments were giving some glitches, SK entertained everybody with his array of humourous stories which set everybody laughing and lighten the mood and atmosphere. Thank you, Sk for your repertoire of humourous speeches!

The moment the equipment were cooperative, Henry Yeoh rendered a soulful song, “I Swear”. Next, TC Wee, CC, sang “Those Were The Days” as if he was back in those days. The only female singer, Rebecca Narcis, CC, sang “From A Distance” like a songbird. We were totally mesmerized by our three singers!

Meanwhile Obaidullah and Kooshan distributed the voting slips for Best Male and Best Female Singer and collected them for tabulation.

As the Dance session was cancelled due to equipment problem, TME, Mohammad Yousuf, CC handed over to President Jeannie Carrera, CC to conduct the Lucky Draw events.

And the last but not least, the Lucky Draw Grand Prize went to Mohammad Yousuf, CC! The luckiest guy of the evening! Congratulations, Yousuf!
