International Speech Contest and Table Topics Contest 2011

The Event - International Speech Contest (ISC) and Table Topics Contest (TTC) 2011

This yearly event happened on 19 January 2011 starting from 7.30pm.

After much planning and organising, the Organising Chair, Marvin Lau, put together the much anticipated event, assisted by a team of role players comprising of ASA, Ballot Counter, Timers and the Contest Chairs.
Some members from other Toastmasters Clubs (Stamford College TMC and Sime Darby Healthcare TMC) had so kindly offered to help in taking up roles.  Thank you.

There were 6 contestants for ISC and 5 contestants for TTC.  The contestants were a mixture of senior and new Toastmasters.

Congratulations to all the winners.  The Champions and 1st Runner Up will be representing Extol Toastmasters Club at the Area C3 ISC and TTC on 26 February 2011.  The 2nd Runner Up will be on standby in case either of the Champion or 1st Runner Up cannot participate.

I must congratulate the new members who had taken their courage to step out of their comfort zone to participate in the contests.  Whether you have won a placing or not is not important.  What is more important is you have conquered your fear and for that, you are already winners.

To all readers : Don't just stop reading!  Go and be part of the audience at the Area C3 Contests on 26 February 2011 at Stamford College.

Special Meeting on 5 January 2011 - Talk on Table Topics

First of all, I like to wish all readers a very happy new year 2011.  May the new year brings cheers and smiles to everyone.  May all be healthy and successful in your life.

Come 5 January 2011 at 7.00pm, Extol will be conducting its next meeting, the 1st meeting in the year 2011.  This meeting will be special as we have invited a Past District Governor, Low Yat Seow, DTM to be the General Evaluator. 

He will also be presenting a 30-min talk on Table Topics (Impromptu Speaking). 

For Toastmasters, you will benefit from the talk whether you are going to participate in your club's upcoming Table Topics Contest or you are going to apply the skills in your regular club meetings.

For non-Toastmasters, learning how to speak spontaneously without preparation is a skill vital in your everyday life. 

You may be attending an interview.  How do you attempt questions directed to you? 

You may be asked by your boss to give some comments on a subject related to your work?  The skills in Table Topics will help you.

Ladies, you may be a finalist in a beauty contest.  When asked to speak on a given topic, how would you handle it? 

Do come and join us in our meeting this Wednesday to pick up some tips.
