This first
meeting of the term 2015-2016 was one meeting “to inspire” and was destined to
lead our club to “greatness”.
General Evaluator, SK Ratnam, DTM |
We were
privileged to have our senior member, SK Ratnam, DTM, as the General Evaluator
for this meeting.
We also
welcomed our C3 Area Director, Wong Keng Lan, CC, CL from SJMC Toastmasters
Club and Ricky Soo, CC from MAD Toastmasters Club for their esteemed presence
at this meeting.
ASA, Nicholas
Khoo punctually called the meeting to order at 7.15pm. You are on the dot,
Nicholas!
President,
Ken Koh, ACB, in his first opening address advocated that every failure can be
corrected, be improved upon until we achieved our aims. Well said, Ken!
TME, Pun Yew Kee, CC |
TME, Pun
Yew Kee, CC, conducted the whole meeting in an encouraging, enriching and
empowering manner. Well done, Yew Kee!
Invocator,
Pei San shared with us anecdotes on her recent US trip which she had longed to
visit when she was a child. Therefore, she believed that when we dream of
something, it will come true. Your dreams came true, San!
Table
Topics Master, Karren Lim rode on the Theme of the meeting, “to inspire” and
Word of the Day, “greatness” during this session.
First
volunteer, Jeannie, ACS, ALB delved on the “greatness” in her Toastmaster’s
journey when given the topic on how “to inspire” others on the last day of her
life.
Second
volunteer, Tham Yen Lai drew upon all her “greatness” qualities in order “to
inspire” all the people around her.
Third
volunteer, Ricky Soo, CC stated that even though he had only embarked on the
Toastmasters journey for a short while, it had been a great one and he was
inspired by it.
Fourth volunteer, Nicholas Khoo |
Fourth
volunteer, Nicholas Khoo, aptly explained that the inability to achieve his
goals was the greatest fear for him not to conquer his fear of “greatness”.
Final volunteer, Wong Keng Lan, CC, CL |
Final
volunteer, Wong Keng Lan, CC, CL lauded her father as the greatest inspirational
mentor who told her to repeat and practice many times in whatever she did to
achieve her objectives in life.
Thank
you all plucky, spirited spontaneous speakers!
And the
best Table Topics Speaker was Jeannie, ACS, ALB. Congratulations, Jeannie!
Humour Master, Dr. Ravi |
Humour Master, Dr. Ravi not only humoured us
with his “pink, pink, pink ball” story but also kept us in suspense right to
the end and beyond it.
Immensely
experienced Table Topics Evaluator, Kwa Ngan Eng, DTM was concise, succinct and
encouraging in her evaluations of the five impromptu speakers.
For the
project speech session, first speaker Victor Guijo gave us many useful,
realistic and workable tips to refrain on overspending with our credit card/s in
his CC#3 speech titled, “How to get out of debt?” Those were words of wisdom, Victor!
His
evaluator, Dr. Ravi was immeasureably overwhelmed with his debt avoidance tips
and only offered some points of improvement on his speech delivery. Thank you, Ravi!
Second
speaker, Ken Koh, ACB in his speech from
Advance Manual - Storytelling # 4 - The touching story, titled, “Do you believe
in the impossible?” narrated his life story since 2005 when he was a lost child
until he found himself when he was in Form 5. That was indeed a touching story,
Ken!
His
evaluator, Jeannie, ACS, ALB was avidly captivated by his touching story which
met with the speech’s objectives. Thank you, Jeannie!
Third speaker, PY Wong, ACB |
Third
speaker, PY Wong, ACB conducted “How to be a Distinguished Club“ from “The
Successful Club Series”, which was very appropriate for this first meeting of a
new term.
He was
evaluated by Shirley Bak, DTM. Thank you, Shirley!
As
there were only two project speeches, there was no voting for Best Speaker and
Best Evaluator.
Ah
Counter, Tham Yen Lai recorded many speech crutches used by various speakers
during the meeting and enhanced our club’s funds. Magnificent job, Yen Lai!
Grammarian,
Sam Koh was very alert, attentive and captured all the good, creative and
wrongful usage of words and sentences during the meeting. Impressive job, Sam!
Alan
Fung managed the stressful role of “Timer“ remarkably well and presented a
thorough timing report. Well done, Alan!
The Listening
Evaluator, Wong Keng Lan, CC, CL produced ten allegedly simple questions but
nobody got even at least eight correct answers, therefore there was no Best
Listener for this meeting. You are exceptional,
Keng Lan!
General
Evaluator, SK Ratnam, DTM, thanked and praised all the club members who arrived
early, got the meeting venue in order and were well prepared with their
speeches and roles to ensure a smooth meeting. Thank you, SK!
